Which Hypnotherapy Style is for You?
There are several styles being used for hypnotherapy but, not all of these styles will work wonderfully with clients. One way to know what style is going to work best for you is by observing yourself how you respond or react to people who tells you what to do.
If you’re the type of person who feels at ease when given directions, then you can go with the directive approach but if you see yourself more of the rebellious type, then a permissive approach will surely be a better pick. You’ve got to interview your prospect hypnotherapist about his/her style and training to know if you’ll be responsive and feel comfortable to their chosen approach.
In the next lines, you’re going to have a quick overview of different styles of hypnotherapy to understand what is best to take.
Directive approach – in this approach, what the hypnotherapist will do is guide the client in a state of hypnosis and then, gives suggestions on what to do. Many people are quite familiar with this said approach as it’s the kind of technique that is similar to what we see in movies and stage hypnosis.
As a matter of fact, almost every style of hypnotherapy is using this aspect. Simply telling the clients to be relaxed and comfortable and take deep breaths is a direct suggestion already. If ever the client is open, receptive and suggestible to the process and if they don’t have inner conflicts on the focus of hypnotherapy session, direct suggestion will work effectively.
Open ended style – as for this style, what the hypnotherapist do than simply telling their client to close their eyes is to apply a permissive or embedded suggestion that uses permissive or embedded suggestion. In this suggestion, the language basically reflects what the client is actually experiencing and that they are free to whether or not respond to what’s being suggested.
In open ended style, the hypnotherapists use metaphor in teaching clients new inner response to the situation or expand the resources and perception of client regarding the problem or issue. As a matter of fact, those who are under this style tells that things are more fluid, effortless and organic.
Transpersonal approach – oftentimes, the hypnotherapist will invoke the inner wisdom of the client directly and ask for support in guiding the session. The client can then access such wisdom and work directly in it with trance through symbolic communication, voice dialogue as well as inner knowing. Whether you believe it or not, this style backs the cultivation of the client’s ongoing relationship with their inner wisdom.
