Prepare to take a walk on the dark side on Monday, April 8, 2024, when a total solar eclipse will occur. An eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, blocking the sunlight—depending on where in the world you are, the sky may even darken completely. While it’s important to protect your eyes (remember to never look directly at the sun!), your fit can still shine bright like a star.

Designers have often looked to the skies for inspiration—whether it’s the beauty of planets and galaxies or the concept of space travel itself, which usually involves the classic Space Age combo of silver and white. The latter is used for astronaut uniforms both for “visibility even in the darkness of Earth’s shadow” and in order to better reflect the “incidental radiation, mostly from sunlight” that the astronauts are constantly exposed to, as explained recently on the BBC. Other on-theme choices include celestial blue and anything that sparkles or glows like the stars in the sky. Shine on….
