Wild Honey Defines Natural Beauty With Cosmetic Tattoos

Amanda Weisgerber is all about enhancing natural beauty, she said.

At her studio in Sister Bay, Wild Honey, she does this with all things ink – microblading, permanent eyeliner and fine-line tattoos.

Weisgerber graduated from Martin College of Cosmetology in 2007, inspired by her aunt who styled hair for over 40 years. After over 16 years as a stylist, she decided to expand her repertoire and return to school to learn cosmetic tattooing.

Cosmetic tattoos enhance features like brows, eyes and lips by inserting pigment under the skin.

Microblading, for instance, uses a small blade made of nano needles to disrupt the skin on the eyebrow, leaving hair-like strokes behind that are then covered in pigment.

“It’s made to be really realistic and look very subtle, very natural, but to help define and fill in sparse areas of brows and give it a more cohesive brow structure,” Weisgerber explained.

These processes are typically semi-permanent and last for a number of years.

Just through word of mouth, her business has blossomed.

Cosmetic tattoos can eliminate the time and stress of getting ready, she said, especially after a day on the lake.

“A lot of people up here are boaters and to get out of the lake and have perfect brows is a gift I’m thrilled that I can offer,” she said.

Her work can also help clients build confidence. A number of her clients, for instance, are former chemotherapy patients whose brows have not grown back.

“I’ve had a lot of tears when I finish service because they’re just so, so happy with the end result,” Weisgerber said.

She knows semi-permanent makeup can be intimidating for many, and focuses on making sure all her clients are comfortable. Those interested can meet for a free consultation before scheduling any appointments.

Weisgerber wants to dispel the idea that these services are for one specific kind of person.

“It’s not just for young people. It’s not just for people who wear heavy makeup,” she said.

For those looking for something a little more artistic, Weisgerber has also taken courses in fine line tattooing – a style that uses a single tattoo needle to create thin, precise lines.

The majority of tattoo clients come to her with a design in mind, she said, though she has also drawn some designs.

Weisgerber likes to hear the story behind each tattoo, she said.

“Everyone has such a unique story and background,” she said.
