9 Beauty Trends You’re About to See Everywhere In 2025
The past year has seen trends come and go—some with more staying power than others. There were glimmers of bold makeup moments a la Taylor Swift’s glitter freckles and a hint at the return of brightly colored lips. We saw the continuation of the clean girl aesthetic, now poised to fade away in favor of more drama. With the new year being the perfect time to try new things, might we convince you to dabble in these 2025 beauty trends that makeup artists predict will be huge in the coming year?
1. Berry Stained Lips
After a long phase of nude tones and sheer gloss, berry-stained lips are making a comeback for their romantic, universally flattering appeal. “This look ties into the broader trend of effortless beauty, offering a pop of color without the precision of a full-on bold lip,” says Ash K. Holm, a celebrity makeup artist based in Los Angeles, Calif. “It’s versatile and works for both day and evening looks. Dab a berry-toned lipstick onto your lips with your fingers for a soft, diffused effect, and layer a clear balm on top for added hydration.”
2. Bold Eye Makeup
While the “clean girl” aesthetic has certainly enjoyed its moment in the spotlight, our experts predict we’ll see a shift away from this ultra bare look. In its place: boldness.
“TikTok and Gen Z are calling for the return of bold, statement eyes in 2025,” says Alexa Persico, a celebrity makeup artist and founder of Alexa Persico Cosmetics. “We’re talking graphic liners, vibrant shadows, and smoky looks making a big comeback. With beauty becoming more self-expressive and playful, bold eyes are a natural evolution for those looking to stand out.”
3. Color Personalization
If you’ve scrolled through social media there’s no doubt you’ve seen those viral videos of people meeting with color analysts to find which “season” of colors suit them best. This has mostly applied to fashion, but it only makes sense to extrapolate the data and apply it to what’s literally being applied to your face via makeup. Jenny Qian, beauty expert and founder of Astrobabe, says that’s definitely going to happen with more frequency in 2025.
“In 2025, consumers are using color theory to personalize their beauty routines and enhance their features,” she says. “Products that adapt to individual undertones, like pH-reactive lip glosses and blushes, are becoming must-haves. This trend is all about creating universally flattering looks tailored to the individual.”
4. Reverse Cat Eye
While the world’s not quite ready to fully embrace the cat eye like it did in the ‘10s, the reverse cat eye is enjoying some popularity.
“The reverse cat eye flips the traditional cat eye by focusing on a bold, smoked-out line on the lower lash line,” explains Gabrielle Barse, editorial makeup artist and ambassador for Flower Knows. “It gives a sultry, edgy twist to classic eyeliner and has been heavily showcased in viral TikTok tutorials.”
To recreate this look, Barse says to use a smudge-proof gel liner to define the lower lash line, then blend with a small brush for a smoky finish.
5. Warm Neutrals
Expect makeup to take its cue from Pantone’s recently released color of the year: Mocha Mousse. “We’re seeing a shift toward warmer tones, with earthy browns, soft terracottas, and creamy nudes replacing the icy grey and cool tones of previous years,” says Persico. “These colors are flattering across all skin tones and give a natural, sophisticated look to the eyes and lips. A creamy product, like a lip gloss or cream shadow, will help achieve the softness this trend embodies.”
6. Soft Focus Skin
Soft-focus skin is all about creating a diffused, airbrushed effect that looks effortless yet polished. “It’s trending as people embrace natural beauty enhanced with modern formulations like blurring primers and lightweight foundations,” Holm tells us. “This trend celebrates skin’s texture while minimizing imperfections in a subtle way.”
To get this look, she recommends layering a hydrating primer under a soft-matte foundation, and finishing with a light dusting of setting powder for a smooth, velvety finish.
7. Ready-to-Wear Makeup
Eager to go bolder but still enjoying the ease of easy, ready-to-wear makeup is poised to go big in 2025.
“Consumers are craving makeup that’s both fast and flawless, leading to the rise of ready-to-wear beauty products,” Qian says. “Think press-on eyeshadows, stick-on gems, and all-in-one solutions that deliver professional-level results in seconds. As TikTok continues to drive the demand for quick, high-impact beauty routines, products like astrobabe’s 5-second eyeshadow are becoming essentials for everyone from busy moms to pro makeup artists.”
8. Futuristic Metallic Eyes
Futuristic metallic eyes will also take center stage in 2025, combining the rise of AI-inspired aesthetics with bold, high-shine finishes. “From reflective silvers to holographic shades, this trend draws inspiration from the runway and technology-driven design,” Holm predicts. “It’s a striking yet wearable way to make a statement. Use a creamy metallic eyeshadow for an intense finish and pair it with a precise black liner to define the eyes without overloading the look.”
9. Micro Makeup Accessories
Micro-accessories like stick-on pearls, tiny metallic appliqués, glitter freckles (remember that viral T-Swift moment?), and colorful liner stencils are redefining makeup as we know it. “These small details add a playful, high-fashion edge to any look without requiring advanced skills,” says Qian. “Social media is driving this trend as people search for ways to stand out in a sea of content while keeping their routines quick and approachable.”
