No, your calendar app wasn’t the target of a cyber-attack. No, you haven’t fallen for a PSYOP. And no matter what Reddit says, the simulation is not stuck in a time loop. The fact is: it’s still January. We put our fact checkers on the case, and they’ve confirmed it, even if they were a bit bleary-eyed when they did. But now that we’ve jostled you out of the denial stage, let’s skip to the stage Elisabeth Kübler-Ross didn’t tell you about: shopping. A peek at the year’s spring collections will provide you with the warming glow of possibility—which just happens to be the theme of our February 2025 issue—until we spring forward into sunnier days.
To help out, we brought together a cast of creatives whose work is as intrepid as their style. Bona fide scream queen Sophie Thatcher, star of Yellowjackets and this month’s Companion, wearing Burberry. Mark Eydelshteyn, who charmed Hollywood with his breakout performance as a manic pixie dream oligarch in Anora, wearing Loewe. Tommy Dorfman, who’s on stage in Broadway’s Romeo + Juliette for eight performances a week and somehow still found time to complete her first memoir, wearing Balenciaga. Boyd Holbrook, whose independent spirit as an actor (and former model) helped prepare him to play Johnny Cash in A Complete Unknown, wearing the Row. Rapper JT, who reintroduced herself to the music industry on her own terms with her 2024 mixtape City Cinderella, wearing Nensi Dojak. Kareem Rahma, whose online video series “Subway Takes” has become the best part of every New Yorker’s commute, wearing Willy Chavarria. And not to mention some of fashion’s biggest models and most promising new faces, all in the season’s best designers. Will spring come early just because you’re dressed for it? We can’t promise anything. But, hey, in the right outfit, anything is possible.
“It’s one thing to DREAM of or HOPE for something, but to actually be in the PRACTICE of it is still quite SURPRISING. It SHOCKS me every day.”
