The 13 Best Luxury Makeup Brands of 2025

The 13 Best Luxury Makeup Brands of 2025

When it comes to little indulgences, there’s nothing like a satiny eyeliner or cheek flush from a high-end brand. Luxury or prestige makeup brands formulate products with high-quality ingredients that offer advanced benefits wrapped in elegant packaging. These products should also provide an element of pampering and indulgence in your beauty routine, says Melinda Solares, the beauty director at Sephora. “Every detail of the component, formula, and branding is thoughtfully crafted for luxuriating and reveling in the moment of application,” she says. “That attention to detail—quality, rare ingredients, noteworthy packaging, and user experience, is what makes these brands stand out.”

Quite often, luxury makeup brands come from fashion houses and couturiers, like Chanel, Tom Ford, and Hermès. That’s not always the case, though—some luxury makeup brands are founded by celebrities or celebrity makeup artists, others are connected to luxury skin care brands, and some still are totally independent. To help you plan your future splurge, we asked our team of InStyle editors for recommendations on the ultimate luxury makeup brands worth the investment, plus our favorite products from each.

Armani Beauty

InStyle

Armani Beauty is known for its celebrity fans, including Sydney Sweeney (who happens to be the latest face of My Way Parfum) and Tessa Thompson. And though we love so many of the brand’s products, including the dramatic Eyes to Kill Mascara and Velvet Liquid Lipstick, the vibrant Lip Power Satin Lipstick is a cut above the rest—especially shade 400. The vibrant red stays pigmented for hours, and the buttery formula is so good that one editor has gifted it to aunts, grandmas, and moms who equally love it. Another heavy hitter? The Luminous Silk Foundation, which we crowned our best foundation for dry skin. Sweeney and Maude Apatow are just two of the celebrities who swear by it, even when they’re managing breakouts.

If you’re after elegant formulas that are beautiful and sustainable, Armani is for you. The brand is focused on fighting climate change and reducing its carbon footprint by 25 percent in 2025, and it’s well on its way with packaging that is PCR-recycled plastic, recyclable (and in some cases refillable). And the packaging is stunning—every time we apply it, we feel polished, classy, and refined.

Between editors, makeup artists, and celebrities, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone in this category who hasn’t tried (and loved) YSL’s iconic Touch Éclat All-Over Brightening Pen, which is said to have been inspired by the fact that the designer thought women looked best under the gold lights of the runway. We’re also a sucker for the Loveshine Lip Oil Stick—it meets all our standards and more. It’s creamy, moisturizing, and pigmented—something that’s a saving grace through New York’s tepid winters. The same goes for the Lash Clash Extreme Volume Mascara—intense pigment really delivers. It coats all our lashes evenly with an amazing volumizing wand, which really makes our eyes pop on nights out.

Beyond the cult favorites, YSL Beauty leads in innovations. For example, the Rouge Sur Mesure Custom Lip Color Creator allows you to create thousands of lip shades at the tap of a button, so you can always have a personalized lip color. If you’re into engraving, the brand offers it on lipsticks, mascaras, perfume—and yes, Touche Éclat. Yves Saint Laurent’s bold and innovative legacy in the fashion world follows suit in the makeup sector, so it’s great for anyone who appreciates a fresh spin on the classics—glossy lip colors, edgy eye palettes, and radiant complexion products—that feels edgy, new, cool, and couture. The packaging is showstopping, and everything about the brand feels cool and luxurious.

Though Dior Addict Lip Maximizer may be stealing the spotlight right now, this designer makeup brand has been churning out best-selling products since it first launched with lipsticks, no less—in 1953. One of our longtime faves is the Diorshow Mascara, a go-to for stars like Anna Taylor-Joy and Kylie Jenner, as well as the gorgeous range of fragranced hand soaps (they look very chic on the edge of a sink). For Solares, it’s all about the Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil: “When I pull it out from my bag, it gives me a moment of pause and feels like I’m treating myself,” she says. We couldn’t agree more. It’s an ultra-shiny, nonsticky gloss that keeps our lips hydrated like a lip balm and absolutely lives up to the hype. We can’t get enough of the glossy shine and the incredibly fluffy, XL doe foot brush—it coats the entire surface of our lips in one easy swipe. You can’t go wrong with the shades, either. Because the subtle tint makes them beautiful on their own as well as paired with lip liner, you can mix and match them for a customized look. (Try the Mahogany shade with a brown lip liner—trust us).

We also appreciated the Backstage Glow Face Palette, which we first discovered from a few makeup artists. It adds a dimensional luminosity anywhere you put it—with four shades to mix and match, you can truly find the most flattering sheen for you. The brand is known for exceptional textures and finishes, so it’s a must-have for ethereal, fresh-faced looks. We’ve tried (and loved) a handful of Dior’s products and love the sleek, instantly recognizable packaging.

Not all celebrity makeup brands are worth the hype, but Victoria Beckham has earned it with her carefully curated collection of gorgeous beauty products. Ever since she launched her line in 2019, she’s been pumping out hit after hit, all housed in beautiful packaging reminiscent of early Tom Ford. If you’re unfamiliar with the brand, check out the Bitten Lip Tint, a stain that truly lasts without making you look dehydrated like most formulas do, and the Satin Kajal Liners, which are ultra-pigmented and glide on like a dream—you won’t believe how smooth they are. We also love the impressive color variety: Cocoa is great for a little extra drama and definition, and Smoky Quartz for a softer, everyday eye look. And the complexion products—a concealer pen developed with Augustinus Bader and the sleekest contour stick—are favorites.

Whether you prefer a sultry glam vibe or something more effortlessly subtle, there’s no denying that anything from VB’s line will deliver. All the products are designed to be fuss-free yet chic (very Posh) and feel incredibly luxe on the skin—so stock up if that’s your vibe.

Celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman’s collection launched in 2018 and has been a favorite of the classy-clean beauty set ever since. While Gwyneth Paltrow is probably one of the brand’s most well-known fans, Kate Hudson and Martha Stewart are also hooked on the good-for-you formulas (especially the Face Trace Contour Stick). You won’t just love the ingredients in these products (vitamin C, jojoba oil, and more), though. The textures are to die for—silky creams and buttery powders—as are the ultra-luxe, weighty components of products like the Vital Skin Foundation Stick. We also can’t get enough of Westman’s Vital Skincare Concealer—it deposits the creamiest coverage that, once blended out, dries invisibly and practically erases our problem spots and dark circles. It feels so good on skin (thanks to a blend of hyaluronic acid and peptides) and sets and blurs for a natural, fresh, soft focus finish each time. And the Baby Cheeks Blush Stick in Petal might be the most perfect dusty nude rose shade we’ve ever seen (we keep one in each bag to wake up skin with a pretty flush on the go).

Perfect for those who want professional-level performance with a focus on “clean” ingredients, everything from Westman Atelier is seamless to use and blend so it’s an amazing pick for both makeup novices and experts. Everything just blends and buffs so beautifully on skin and is so easy to work with. “Gucci Westman has merged luxury with skin care-like ingredients,” says Solares, noting that the products are in the Clean at Sephora category. “Her brand is not associated with a fashion house, but you would think it was based on the luxurious packaging.”

If you try to count the iconic stars who swear by celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury’s line, you’ll run out of fingers pretty quickly. Adele, Billie Eilish, and Amal Clooney all love the products, and Britney Spears even wore all Charlotte Tilbury on her wedding day. The brand launched back in 2013 with a decent range of products that has since grown to a comprehensive collection that offers everything you could ever need, including skin care. Every product is infused with quality ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, and with the brand’s signature rose gold packaging.

If you’re new to Charlotte Tilbury, Hollywood Contour Duo, Hollywood Flawless Filter, and Pillow Talk Lipstick are all great picks to start with—and once you fall in love, you’ll want to sign up for product subscriptions, which will get you 15 percent off future orders. We personally have multiples of the classic Lip Cheat Lip Liner. The creaminess and blendability of the pencil are unmatched. The color is quite opaque, it glides on effortlessly and stays put throughout the day. We can’t live without the shade Pillow Talk, but the wide shade range means they’re great for casual day-to-day use and a night out on the town. If glow-bomb skin, chiseled cheekbones, and plump, luscious lips are what you’re after, you need to try Charlotte Tilbury’s line. Everything is made to deliver a red carpet-esque glam, so her suite of essentials is perfect for special occasions like weddings or events, too.

There’s not a single luxury list out there that would exclude Chanel—not only is it one of the original designer makeup brands (it’s been around since the 1920s), but it’s also one of the best. We never cease to be blown away by Chanel’s limited-edition collections, which often feature pressed powders that are debossed with elegant details, such as the fashion house’s signature tweed or tiny bottles of Chanel No° 5. And though the brand is basically 100 years old, it’s not remotely dated—in fact, products go viral frequently. Hailey Bieber recently revealed that she’s a fan of the Ultra Le Teint Foundation, and our review of Chanel’s newest under-eye concealer, Sublimage Le Correcteur Yeux, caused it to sell out multiple times. One of our absolute favorite products is the Les Beiges powder. It delivers everything we want in a pressed powder—sets our makeup flawlessly while providing a soft-focus effect that blurs imperfections throughout the day. It’s ultralight, never chalky, and leaves a satin finish that gives our skin the healthiest-looking glow.

Timeless, elegant, and always supremely stylish, Chanel makeup is in a league of its own. It stands out for its supreme wearability—so it’s the ultimate pick for anyone who wants tried and true fresh skin, natural color, easy blendability, and subtle definition all around. There’s something so satisfying about opening the sleek, black-and-beige compact adorned with Chanel’s iconic logo.

Gucci Beauty has existed in a few iterations over the years, but the relaunch in 2019 has cemented the makeup brand as a mainstay. The launch campaign made headlines for promoting Gucci lipstick on “imperfect” smiles, a form of beauty inclusivity we don’t often see. Since then, we’ve seen the brand’s formulas adorn the faces of countless celebs—including Salma Hayek, whose daughter absconded with the star’s favorite Rouge à Lèvres Satin Lipstick. The Glow Multi-Use Illuminating Gel-Powder Highlighter is at the top of our favorite makeup products ever. The compact somehow replicates golden hour lighting—just pressed into a powder that feels like velvet. We’re incredibly picky about highlighters but find that this one melts into skin and looks seamless. We also love the Plumping Lip Gloss—while it stings slightly, the effect is subtle, helping plump up lips, and the scent is totally indulgent. We particularly love the ‘90s brown shade.

If you want a customizable and buildable range of makeup that still feels like your skin, Gucci Beauty really hits the mark. The makeup feels fun and maximalist yet easily wearable. They even have a “Caring Collection” focused on nourishing and priming skin so you can both accentuate bare skin and refresh any makeup look. While the range is limited, it’s something we actually appreciate—we don’t have to sift through products and products to find the ones we really love.

Byredo, known for their cool-girl, luxurious perfumes and body care, created more than a makeup line when it launched in 2020: Everything is a sculptural dream and looks more like an objet d’art than a collection of makeup. And the formulas are truly as luxurious and high-performance as it gets with fantastic finishes, smooth application, and divine pigments that really last. While we don’t know anyone who doesn’t love the brand’s perfumes (the unique yet beautiful scents always set us up for compliments), we were impressed that the makeup is just as good. Our first obsession was the eyeshadow—it feels like butter and takes just one swipe across the eyelid to elevate your everyday makeup. It’s so soft, forgiving, and easy to work with, even for those who aren’t good at liquid eyeliner. It works as brilliantly for a smudged-out soft line as it does for a thick, crisp, tight line.

Swedish brand Byredo’s gender-neutral makeup is meant to inspire, captivate, and elevate. The colors range from soft nudes to bold, galactic purple, and the formulas are made to be worn multiple ways, so it’s brilliant if you like to color outside the lines and prefer something multipurpose. Each item is so easy to use and delivers a good yet uncomplicated wash of color.

Prada Beauty

Chances are you’ve seen the gorgeous mint green lip balm from Prada grace your social media channels. Everything works for soft, romantic, barely there makeup that’s so flattering and natural. We absolutely love the lip balms. Our favorite moisturizing lip balm is the Astral Pink—a color-enhancing technology that takes our dull, muddy natural lip color and brightens it to balance the pH of our lips. It looks completely natural and undetectable. All the lip balms have this nostalgic scent that is reminiscent of old-school makeup. More importantly, they’re hydrating, chic, and refillable.

Beyond the lip balms, the Refine Blurring Extending Primer and Reset Rebalancing Refillable Setting Powder both work soft-focus makeup magic that lasts from morning work meetings to happy hour, and the Pradalines Gliding Waterproof Smudge Proof Eye Pencil is waterproof with matte or satin finishes so you can mix it up depending on your mood. They even make lilac and mint green liners—so chic and fun.

“I find the packaging to be so chic and love that you can refill the luxury balm when you run out. I’m also excited to see what they continue to develop.” —Melinda Solares, beauty director at Sephora

While Ogee is in the clean beauty space, they go beyond clean to deliver a line of high-performance, multiuse, organic formulas. Each product abides by stringent standards—the brand has an NSF certification, meaning their products are truly organic (they utilize a minimum of 70 percent organic ingredients in all their formulas). Our absolute favorite is the Sculpted Face Stick in Rose Quartz—a rosy pink matte. It goes on smoothly and easily and makes our cheeks look healthy and pink, like we just went for a run. However, we also keep the Activated Botanical Primer and Complexion Perfecting Tinted Serum in our regular rotation for a natural, you-but-better look that’s fresh and elevated. Infused with skin care ingredients, the products melt in seamlessly with a second-skin finish that’s just so flattering.

The sleek gold and white packaging is incredibly luxe and makes us feel like we’re pampering ourselves every time we reach for it. The brand has an incredible range of formulas to choose from, including the skin care-infused Tinted Sculpted Lip Oil—the shades are just perfection.

Fara Homidi

Whether she’s illuminating Bella Hadid’s skin for a magazine cover or putting the finishing touches on models backstage at Gabriela Hearst’s spring show, makeup artist Fara Homidi’s “polished with an effortless twist” aesthetic sets her apart, and her luxe, minimalist makeup line is a reflection of that. The colors are rich and melty and easy to apply with your finger or a brush—making it impossible to mess up. Her gorgeous lacquered compacts—there’s a lip one and a skin one—hold two creams each. The Essential Face Compact includes Smooth Veil Soft Matte, a cream powder that works as foundation and concealer, and Shine Baume, a highlighter, while her Essential Lip Compact includes Colour Plush Soft Matte, a flattering lip color, and Prime Baume, a lip primer. Everything is silky smooth, feels weightless, and blends beautifully.

The makeup brushes are incredibly high-quality and functional, too. We especially love the Petit Conceal Brush that blends any foundation or concealer like a shield of invisibility. And we couldn’t forget about the Smudge & Contour Lip Pencil—it glides across lips whether you prefer a defined line or buffed-out softness. Minimalist and uber chic, Fara Homidi’s line works as well backstage and on photoshoots as it does for a long day at the office or a girls’ night out. It’s for anyone who wants to add a subtle gleam, softly blur any imperfections or spots, or define lips with a wash of color.

Burberry

After a hiatus, British luxury brand Burberry’s makeup is finally back in the United States. The once-obsessed-over line relaunched online last year and in-store at Nordstrom as of March 2025. If you love the classics, like their signature trench coat, you’ll love the line. It consists of everyday products that are elevated and upgraded with its “Trench Protect technology” to keep makeup in place against weather, environmental pollutants, and more. We love the packaging with the brand’s iconic beige design, and every product has a little twist to it: For example, the primer doubles as a highlighter, the foundation is infused with antioxidants for skin care benefits, and more.

While setting powders are mostly…not good for beautiful finishes, Burberry’s is one of the few that performs. The Beyond Wear Setting and Refining Powder is undetectable but makes a huge difference in our makeup’s durability and wear, blurring pores and concealing bumpy texture along the way. We like to pair it with the Beyond Radiance Base Primer. It has a springy, gel texture but is somehow creamy and hydrating, too. We like to apply it all over our face before makeup and dabbing it onto high points of the face afterward. The Eye Quad Eyeshadow Palette consists of four no-frills, powdery shadows in earthy, neutral tones, which makes it incredible for everyday subtly defined eyes. And the sheer Beyond Wear Perfecting Matte Foundation goes above and beyond for our skin.
