Tips from our fashion experts: 6 ways to style your gameday outfit | Arts & Culture

With the Super Bowl this Sunday, it would only be right to get into the only part about this day that matters — looking cute and having fun! And we all know what isn’t fun; not having a cute outfit. So, it’s time to discuss stylish ways to elevate your game day outfit in a spirited way.

RED
Now, obviously we were blessed with the color red for Chiefs and KU so it should be relatively easy to stock up your closet! I mean, could you imagine having to style purple every time there’s a game? Gross! TCU really does seem to be the only school that can pull it off, huh? K-State could definitely use some work, those poor things.
Well lucky for us, red is trendy and fun. If you aren’t feeling an entirely red outfit, a simple pop of red in a purse, shoes or even a cute belt can go a long way. Personally, my red purse has gotten a ton of wear. This works great with a simple white top and jeans.
Some definite staples I’d recommend as a base to start your game-day wardrobe are a plain white tee, a red purse and red shoes of some kind, whether that’s the trending blue and red Adidas Sambas or red cowboy boots.

JERSEY STYLING
There are countless ways to style a jersey. You might be wondering how some girls manage to make a jersey look cool and chic, and not like a little boy on the way to the bleachers with his dad. The distinct difference here is in accessorizing. Big earrings and cute sunglasses are the best way to transform your look.
My personal favorite way to style a jersey is an oversized look, and who needs pants? I love when girls wear a jersey as a dress. This can be paired with a pair of boots or tennis shoes, and don’t underestimate your accessories.
Another simple classic is to master the technique of “the tuck.” Instead of tucking the jersey into your jeans, try tucking it under a bra. I love this style with jeans or a jean skirt.
VINTAGE

Vintage looks for game days are the best way to stand out and show off your unique style. I’m always jealous of people rocking insane, one-of-a-kind KU bomber jackets or retro Chiefs sweaters.
The best places to find vintage gems are right here in Lawrence. Mass. Street is home to a variety of shops selling second-hand Kansas gear. Rex Vintage has a huge selection of unique T-shirts and sweatshirts, while Arizona Trading Company and Wild Man Vintage are also great for scoring rare finds.
DENIM ON DENIM
One of the biggest emerging trends I’ve been seeing all over Lawrence game days is denim on denim. If you have a matching jean wash jacket and jeans, you could create your new go-to outfit with a plain white T-shirt and a bold, red accessory.

Denim on denim has an effortless style and gives off a laid-back, yet put-together vibe. Not only is it trendy, but it’s timeless. This look has been around for decades and continues to come back in fresh, stylish ways.
TRUCKER HATS
From Free Beer Fridays to KU game days, the trucker hat takeover has been going strong for years. It’s one of the few trends I find truly unique to KU. Possibly stemming from our one-of-a-kind Friday day drinking traditions, we have nailed the art of cute yet casual day-drinking attire, and the trucker hat has marked its territory in Lawrence.

HAVE FUN WITH IT

Makenzee Losure and Avery Yarbrough celebrate KU game day in Austin, Texas, bringing in some western vibes, but leaving no doubt what team they support. Mak pairs her red gingham set with brown cowboy boots and red ribbon, while Avery wears a denim top, white maxi skirt and red hair ribbon.
And lastly, some of the best outfits come from simply having fun with your own personal style. Get creative and try something different like the red track pants Shay’s wearing on the right, looking awesome as always.
You can never go wrong with a red set, just like Mak, who loves to have fun with accessories, featuring a silver bag and white ribbon in her hair.
Any kind of red white or blue will do, and you really can’t go wrong with denim either. As seen on the right, Avery pairs a denim top with a white maxi skirt and a red ribbon in her hair. She adds a subtle pop of yellow with a game day button.
