Barcelona icon tips imminent new signing for success – ‘Flick’s style can be very good for him’

Marcus Rashford’s transfer to Barcelona has unfolded much quicker than anticipated, and while the deal is still indeed incomplete, the player has already been spotted in Catalonia and has given his medical exams.

The Manchester United star is thus expected to join on a one-year loan with Barcelona retaining an option to make it permanent. He will even travel with Flick and Co. to Asia for the pre-season tour.

Over the years, Barcelona have had several international players don the crest and even become some of the club’s biggest legends.

There has, however, been a relative shortage of English players in Catalonia, and Rashford ends that long wait.

Lineker’s thoughts

Speaking to the media, the last Englishman to play for Barcelona, Gary Lineker, commented on Rashford’s imminent move to Barcelona and how he was relieved that the club would finally have an English presence once more.

“It’s been a long time without having an Englishman at Barça, and it’s a good signing for Barça. He’s a great player,” said the club icon.

“He has had his problems at Manchester United in recent years, but he is very talented. He is very fast, very dangerous, and he is a good person,” he added.

Speaking on what the Manchester United star will bring to the table for the Blaugrana, the club legend said:

“I hope he can show his level. Now, many games are played and more than starters are needed, but Marcus has a lot of skill and I think he’s going to be a great signing for Barça.”

“We’ll see because you never know, but I’m very happy to see him in Barcelona. He’s my good friend,” he added.

Lineker then explained where Rashford is best placed on the field and how Hansi Flick can fully extract the best from the young winger.

“His best position is the left wing and he can also play as a centre-forward. He is very fast when he has the ball at his feet. The best place is on the left.”

“Flick’s Barça’s style of play can be very good for him because he is very dangerous,” he added, making a huge statement.

The English legend then went on to blame Manchester United for Rashford’s struggles and how the club has suffered in recent years.

“The problem is Manchester United. They have had many problems and the truth is that Marcus has not played much, but those who have left there have played better elsewhere.”

Finally, Lineker was asked about Lamine Yamal and the youngster’s announcement as Barcelona’s new number 10.

“Lamine is the next great player after Maradona and Messi. At his age, doing the things he does, he is very special.”

“He may be one of the greats, but he needs to be lucky. The way he plays, he’s very good. The Ballon d’Or? I would give it to him,” he added, naming him as his pick for the prestigious honour.
